News and Events

Pastor Skip's Musing
The season between Easter and Pentecost is, sometimes, called Eastertide in the liturgical church calendar. Normally, the calendar has an Old Testament reading, a Psalm, a Gospel reading, and an Epistle reading. However, between  Easter and Pentecost there is no Old Testament reading, instead there is a reading, from the Book of the Acts of the Apostles. This is to remind us of the history of the beginnings of the church after Jesus’ death and resurrection.

For many years, I have chosen to follow the lectionary readings of the larger church. Our brothers and sisters in a  number of churches also have lectionaries, which are either similar or identical to ours. Personally, I like the idea of
various parts of the Body of Christ sharing the scripture readings on Sundays and other Holy Days. To be clear, nobody requires me or any other Presbyterian pastor to use the lectionary. I do it as my choice for a spiritual discipline. I like
the way the lectionary follows the flow of the church year.

So, this is why I do this part of what I do. Any questions? Always feel free to ask questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and to work with you as you continue the important work you are doing as you move forward to
calling your next pastor.
